  • Notes
    • Isaac's death appears to have been a needless tragedy when he was one of fourteen drowned from the "Richmond" off St. Bees Head as she was returning to Whitehaven for repairs. Isaac was probably one of the shipyard carpenters who had been sent further down the coast to effect temporary repairs to her leaking hull. Although she could have made Whitehaven in safety, some of the carpenters had panicked and taken to the ship’s boat. One of them cut the rope fall before the boat had hit water and all fell into the sea with tragic consequences.
